SS 62 NW SWIMBRIDGE SWIMBRIDGE

1615/11/210 The Old Schoolroom

GV II

Former school and possibly church-house, now village hall. Probably C17 with possibly
earlier fabric concealed. Rendered stone rubble. Slate roof with gable ends. Stack at right end, and small truncated front lateral stack. Rectangular on plan with large single room on each floor. 2 storeys with external stone steps to loft plank door at left gable end with slate canopy. 3 window range. C20 2-light casements on the east side. West side has three 2-light casements one on each floor, those to the upper storey have small leaded panes.
Interior: ground floor room has 2 ceiling beams supported on slender engaged timber columns to each side. No access to roof space but feet of 3 straight principal rafters and heavy purlins are partly exposed. The hall abuts into the churchyard.
