Retreat Inn including garden wall

Pair of cottages. Probably C18, left-hand cottage is the earlier one. C20
additions. Rubble walls with brick dressings to windows of right-hand cottage.
Slate roof, gable ended. Projecting rubble stacks at either gable end, left-hand
one is rendered.
Pair of 2-room plan cottages each with larger room heated by gable stack and smaller
unheated room.
2 storeys with attic. Left-hand cottage projects from right-hand one and has
asymmetrical 1-window front with partially blocked door to right. First floor
window is 3-light late C19/early C20 casement with glazing bars, a row of slates
covers the lintel. On the ground floor is a late C19/early C20 2-light casement
with small panes. This and the partially blocked doorway to the right has a flat
stone. Single storey C20 addition recessed at left end.
Right-hand cottage has asymmetrical 2-window front with door to left of centre and
further single light C20 casement to its left. The other 3 windows are mid C19 16-
pane sashes with horns. C20 part glazed door. Small attic window in gable end of
each cottage. C19 2-light casement with decorative glazing bars on first floor of
right gable.
Interior : inaccessible at time of survey but appeared to have been much modernised
in C20, no old features visible.
To include low rubble garden wall immediately in front of both cottages and
extending at a higher level to the right of the right-hand cottage.
