Gateway and gates. Circa 1858, probably by John Johnson. Red brick with stone
dressings in a Baroque style. Large semi-circular arch with stone impost blocks and
keystone with coat of arms above in inverted arch; flanked by a giant order of
fluted Doric pilasters with plinth full entablature and ball finials. 2 small
archways to left and right, with rusticated piers to the outside with cornices, ball
finials and large scrolled buttresses above to the central arch. One pair of
large wrought iron gates in the central arch with dog rails curved up to form
top rails; smaller gates in arches to each side. Berkshire Architectural Guide,
