STOKE FLEMING
SX84NE Barn and cart shed
6/133 immediately East of
Riversbridge Farmhouse

GV II

Barn and adjoining cartshed. Probably C18 or early C19, and repaired in
late C19. Local slate rubble. Scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The
cart shed to the right (south) has a lower roof with a hipped end.
Plan: Rectangular plan barn with a wide doorway to the front left and a
loft above, and a 3-bay open-fronted cart shed on the right hand end.
Exterior: The barn is 2 storeys and has a wide doorway to the left of the
front with a large chamfered timber lintel and loft doorway at the centre
with an old plank door with strap hinges.
The cart shed on the right is single storey with a lower hipped roof and
has a 3-bay open-front with 2 timber posts supporting a large timber arcade
plate.
Part of the rear wall of the barn including the top courses appears to have
been rebuilt.
Interior: The barn has late C19 scissor-braced soft wood trusses. The cart
shed has a similar roof structure which might be a little earlier - if
pegged apex joints.
