House, formerly house and adjoining shop. Late C16-early C17 origins, extended
probably in late C17 - early C18, rearranged in early C19, renovated circa 1984.
Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick;
thatched roof. 2-room main block with lower and narrower 1-room extension to right,
facing road to east. Axial stack between main block and extension and projecting
rear lateral stack with adjoining newel turret to main block. 2 storeys. Irregular
front of various casements. Main block has 3 ground floor casements and one 1st
floor right, and extension has 2 ground floor casements and one 1st floor right. All
are late C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars except main block ground floor right
and extension 1st floor which are late C17 - early C18 flat-faced mullion windows and
include some rectangular leaded glass. Door now into rear of main block.
Interior of main block includes 2 late C16-early C17 chamfered and step-stopped
crossbeams but fireplace has been rebuilt, roof structure renewed and partitions are
C19 brick-nogged frames. Plain carpentry detail to extention which in C19 was used
as a shop. Included for group value.
