8/122 Week Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Mid to late C19 remodelling and extension of C17 house incorporating
some original fabric. Local stone rubble walls with granite quoins and dressings.
Gable ended slate roof. 3 stacks : at left gable end is brick shaft on rubble base;
offset from ridge is axial brick shaft on older stone base with granite drip-stones.
At rear is C19 lateral rubble stack with brick shaft.
Plan: Originally likely to have had 3-room and through-passage plan with lower end
to the right. Axial hall stack backing onto passage, it is unclear whether the
lower and inner rooms were originally heated or whether their fireplaces date from
the C19 remodelling. This included a re-fronting and the addition of a rear wing
behind the inner room at the left end.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front with the first floor windows below small
gables of 3-light C19 casements. The 2 ground floor windows are 2-light horned mid-
late C19. To right of centre is C19 plank door in ovolo-moulded C19 wooden
doorframe. At the rear is a wing at the right-hand end.
Interior : the hall has a large C17 granite framed fireplace which has had a later
fireplace inserted into it. The room also has chamfered cross beams.
This house has been little altered since the C19 preserving an unspoilt exterior and
forms part of a traditional farm complex.
