Description

SX 68 NE CHAGFORD

3/40 Barn approximately 15
metres north of
Hole Farmhouse

GV II

Threshing barn. Probably C17, re-roofed in C20. Granite stone rubble
including some fairly large blocks; corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch).

Plan and description: Threshing barn facing south into farmyard of the
farmhouse(q.v). It contains opposing doors set a little right of centre
onto threshing floor, the front one larger than the rear. The doorways seem
to have been moved from the centre to accommodate threshing machinery in the
C19. Roof is gable-ended.

Interior is open to the roof which was completely renewed in the C20.

This barn forms part of a group of attractive farm buildings, the best of
them listed in the vicinity of the important Dartmoor longhouse, Hole
Farmhouse (q.v).
