- east of the chancel of the Church
of St Nicholas
GV II
Headstone. Late C19. Signed R. Miller, Lifton. Slate. Shouldered headstone with
an octagonal head commemorating William Kerslake, died 1869. A sailing ship is
carved in deep relief in a roundel in the head, the verse below the inscription
explains the carving "The Lord did on my side engage/From Heav'n his throne my cause
upheld/And snatch'd me from the furious race/Of threat'ning waves that proudly
swell'd/". Unusually elaborate slate-carving for the region.
