Bunkershill

22/12/76 II

Former Dovecote. Late C18 or early C19. Mixed river cobbles and red sandstone
rubble, graduated Welsh slate roof and glover. 2 storeys, circular plan. Plank
doors on ground floor and loft to rear. Roof re-slated in early 1970s, glover
with louvred wooden slats. Interior retains its original brick boulins for
approximately 500 nests. See Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian &
Archaeological Society, old series, ix, pp424-5.
