Steps and gates to vegetable
GV garden, Hopton Hall
II


Two pairs of gate piers and steps. Late C18. Dressed gritstone. 11 steps, 6 feet
wide. At top a pair of plain circular pillars with debased classical decoration,
surmounded by ball finials. Below moulded capital, frieze of fluted and gabled
decoration. At base of steps, the remains of two similar gate piers, only decorated
top 2 feet survives, with ball finials. Removed from position by the north front
of the Hall.
