Description

TEIGNMOUTH

SX9473 MERE LANE
25-1/5/162 (North side)
Vine Cottage

GV II

House. Mid C19, probably a remodelling of an older building.
Painted incised stucco with painted stone dressings,
slate-hung right return, shallow-pitched forward-facing gabled
roof, brick stack to right wall. Double-depth plan with C20
rear extension.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; one-window range. Slightly shouldered
architraves have slightly pedimented lintels which extend
beyond the jambs. Two 3/6-pane sash windows to the 2nd floor;
one larger central 6/6-pane sash to the 1st and ground floors,
possibly former 8/8-pane sashes as they are wider. C20 door to
the left.
The left return has one horizontal window of 8 small panes to
the ground floor. The rear has been rebuilt.
INTERIOR: the horizontal window in the left return lights a
through passage to the left. A C18 architrave to the rear of
the front room remains and a very deep chimney-breast to the
right was probably to a former open fire.
