Detached house now in use as a school. c1886. By Harry
Measures. For William Willett and Son, builder-developers. Red
brick ground floor, upper floors yellow brick with red brick
dressings and pilasters at angles; terracotta and rubbed brick
enrichment. Tiled hipped roof with dormers, gable to right
hand bay and tall brick slab chimney-stacks with panelling and
cornices. Asymmetrical design.
EXTERIOR: 3 and 2 storeys, attics and semi-basement. Irregular
fenestration of 3 windows. All 1st floor sashes with glazing
bars to top halves only; ground floor casements with stained
glass top lights. Right hand projecting gabled bay with canted
bay of casements and sashes rising from semi-basement through
1st floor; ground floor with gauged brick heads, shaped
keystone and bracketed continuous sill; 1st floor has enriched
terracotta frieze, continuing across the facade, and
balustrade to the 2nd floor window of tripartite sashes, with
gauged brick heads and keystone, flanked by pilasters at
angles supporting gable. Gable with bands of red brickwork
with projecting stepped tiles, keyed oculus and terracotta
dragon finial.
Slightly projecting central entrance bay with portico of
rubbed brick half-columns supporting an enriched frieze and
pediment; round-arched entrance with part-glazed panelled door
having sidelights and radial patterned fanlight, approached by
steps with curved balustrade.
1st floor, paired sashes with frieze and balustrade above.
Similar arrangement to 1st floor left hand recessed bay.
