Dovecote and adjoining stable range
immediately north-west of the Manor
House

Dovecote and stable range. Late C18 with later alterations.
Red brick with pantile roofs. Rectangular on plan, with
square-plan dovecote at west end.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey dovecote, single-storey stables. Dovecote
with plinth. West side has window to ground-floor left with
glazing bars, blue brick sill and segmental ovolo-moulded
brick hoodmould; first-floor semi-circular opening with
similar moulded hood and a single row of dove-holes between
sandstone ledges. South side has blind segmental-arched
opening with stone sill. North side has central board door
beneath lintel, inserted 2-fold door to left. Pyramidal roof
with square-section part-glazed wooden turret with pyramidal
roof and weather-vane.
Stable range: south side, facing Manor House (qv) has
gig-house to right with double board doors, flanked by 2
stable doors with tall overlights with glazing bars beneath
lintels at eaves level, and two 9-pane windows beneath
segmental arches. To left, blocked segmental-arched window
with a moulded brick hood, and a board door adjoining the
dovecote. Stepped eaves. Roof hipped to right. North side,
facing farmyard: a pair of board doors beneath tall plain
overlights, a similar third doorway with an inserted glazed
panel, a segmental-headed window with glazing bars, and a
plate-glass window with lintel at eaves level.
INTERIOR: dovecote has tiers of brick nesting boxes to first
floor, elaborate internal timber structure to turret. Stable
range not inspected.
