Staggered terrace of 6 houses. Early C19. Mass wall construction, painted and stuccoed; slate roofs; red brick chimney shafts with bands and old chimney pots; cast iron rainwater goods.
Plan: prominently-sited on a steep hill rising from the Quay. Houses one room wide, double depth, plus service blocks at rears. Rooms heated by axial chimney stacks.
Exterior: 2 storeys plus basements. Boxed eaves, No.14 with brackets. Each house has an asymmetrical but regular 2-window front. Doors to left except at No.14, which has a curved left corner and entrance at rear. Nos.12 and 13 have projecting cornices on consoles over entrances. Rectangular overlights with vertical glazing bars over panelled doors. Blind windows at first floor left of Nos.12 & 13. Twelve-pane hornless sash windows at No.9 and late C19 four-pane sashes to No. 10. No. 11 has twelve-pane hornless sash windows above 16-pane sash window. Late C20 replacement windows at No.12. Sixteen-pane hornless sash windows at Nos.13 and 14. Horizontal sliding louvred shutters to ground floor window of No.13. Mid/late C20 attic dormers at Nos.13 and 14. Left return of No.14 has 2 light small-pane casement windows at ground floor and at attic level, the curved corner has a curved small pane fixed window to the ground floor and a curved blind window with sill at first floor level.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
This row of modest early nineteenth-century houses has group value with Nos 2-8(qv), divided from it by Colleton Grove. The two terraces are in a prominent position close to the Quay.
