Two houses, now hotel and attached railings. c1822-1834 with
later additions and alterations including late C19 range to
left and range to rear. Pinkish-brown brick with painted
stucco and Welsh slate roof with cast-iron railings and
balcony.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys with attics and basement, 6 first-floor
windows with range to left of single storey with basement, 3
bays.
Main range: right 3-window range projects and through first
and second floors has fluted Composite pilasters to ends and
between windows.
First floor: three 9/9 and 3 tall 9/6 sashes in plain reveals
with blind boxes to 3 windows to left and sills to 3 to right.
Second floor: 6/6 sashes in plain reveals and with sills.
Continuous band; frieze, cornice to left 3-window range, and
to angles of right 3-window range a modillion cornice. Third
floor: to right 3-window range are plain pilasters to ends and
between windows; 3/6 sashes throughout in plain reveals and
with sills. Cornice, low parapet.
Ground floor: entrances to right to each house, 7 and 8
roll-edged steps to 4-panel door to left and glazed door to
right, both with blind fanlights in tooled surrounds with
fielded pilasters and mask-keystones. 6/6 sashes in plain
reveals and with sills, with Venetian blinds and blind boxes.
Attics: 4 dormer windows with casements.
Basement: plank door, part-glazed door, 6/6 and two 2/2
sashes.
Range to left: central wide bay between narrow bays, pilaster
strips between and to ends; four 1/2 sashes to centre and 1 to
each side, all in plain reveals and with sills; recessed
panels above each window; cornice, blocking course with
central recessed panel and pilaster strips as below, copings.
Roof to main range half-hipped to right, hipped roof to left
range. Tall end stacks and to centre of main range, all with

cornices. Continuous first-floor balcony has decorative
scrolled uprights.
Right return: first-floor band surmounted by end pilasters
through first and second floors. Openings to left, all floors
are blind; otherwise first floor has 6/6 and 9/9 sash; second
floor has 6/6 sash with sill; third floor has 3/3 sash; ground
floor has two 6/6 sashes.
Range to rear of 2 low storeys has blind openings, 2 to each
floor.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps have
spear-head finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly known as Beauchamp Square (and
originally Newbold Square), this was laid out 1822-1825 by PF
Robinson, architect, of Mayfair; Kenilworth Road was laid out
c1834-1838.
