GV II

Gate lodge. Early C19 with later additions and alterations,
including C20 extension to east side. Sandstone ashlar with
Welsh slate roof. Late Neo-Classical style, symmetrical
design.
EXTERIOR: single-storey with attic, single bay, 2 windows
deep. 4 steps to tetrastyle Doric portico with 2 engaged
pilasters and oculus to pediment. Within portico is a 4-panel
door in tooled surround and with cornice. To west return are 2
casement windows in tooled surrounds with cornices. Continuous
frieze and cornice. Ridge stack. Attic dormers to east return.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Lodge to the former Edstone Hall (Hall demolished, rebuilt
1936 and not included: NMR 1166).
Forms a group with Gate pier, Walls and Piers (north) (qv) and
Gate pier, Wall and Pier (south) (qv).
