Barn approx. 10m west of Taythes

GV II

Barn with attached stable and privy. Probably C18, with C19
addition. Roughly-coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, roof
of stone slates on the lower half and blue slates on the
upper. Rectangular plan on east-west axis, with stable
attached at east end and privy attached to north-east corner
of this. The barn has a square-headed former doorway in the
centre, with a timber lintel, reduced to half its original
width by rubble walling in the right-hand half, and to the
right a square-headed doorway with a monolith lintel. The
stable, butted against the right-hand gable, has a loading
doorway at this junction, and a square-headed doorway at
ground floor next to the right-hand end, with a massive
monolithic lintel; its right-hand gable wall has
through-stones on 2 levels, and a lean-to privy at the rear
corner. Rear has large buttress to centre.
INTERIOR: not inspected. Included as part of a significant
farm group with Taythes farmhouse (qv).
