Description

TIVERTON

SS91SW Ford Farmhouse
848-1/4/5

II

Farmhouse. Probably C16/17, remodelled C19. Render on probable
cob; asbestos slate roof with projecting eaves replacing
thatch; large external lateral stack at the front with tall
extended shaft. Presumed 3-room plan with original hall left
of centre heated by the lateral stack.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys (probably since the C17 anyway); 4-window
range with old 2- and 3-light casement windows with glazing
bars, the ground-floor window at far right (serving the lower
end) is stepped down. Present doorway near the left with
4-panel top-glazed door but presumed original doorway
position, right of the lateral stack, fronting a presumed
passage, is now fitted with a 2-light window.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to retain original or old
features of interest, the roof structure of these early
farmhouses in Devon often being of considerable interest.
