GV II

Estate cottage. Early C19. Perhaps designed by Sir John Soane
in conjunction with the Picture Gallery and Mausoleum (qv).
Brick in stretcher bond to west-facing and south-facing
elevations, the rest in Flemish bond. Hipped roof of slate.
PLAN: L-shaped plan, with the angle of the L facing Gallery
Road and the south; entrances in angle and on return parallel
with Gallery Road.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. South-facing elevation of one-window
range, one-window range to west elevation which projects to
Gallery Road. 2-window ranges to west-facing elevation along
inner corner of L and to north-facing elevation to Gallery.
All ground-floor windows are segmental or camber-arched; all
1st-floor windows are flat-arched. Flat-arched entrance set in
west end in a full-height bay with quadrant corners. Second
flat-arched entrance set on west return from inner corner.
Brick wall in Flemish bond runs east from rear of cottage then
turns north to Gallery; rebuilt in parts.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms a group with Dulwich Picture Gallery and Mausoleum (qv).
