Inn with stables, now public house. C16, altered and extended
C17, C19 and mid C20.
MATERIALS: part timber frame with painted brick infill, part
timber frame encased in painted brick; part painted roughcast.
Old tile hipped and gabled roofs.
PLAN: L-plan of 2 x 6 framed bays with extensions on right and
at rear.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. 4 chimneys, one of late C16 at rear with
large weathered base, clay pots. Black painted plinth, open
eaves. Windows are combination of C18 and C19 sash windows
with glazing bars, C19 and C20 casement windows with glazing
bars. Entrance (south) front: left hand section oldest with
two, single bay cross gables with linking parapet and large,
pointed and square hoodmoulds painted black. Platband at first
floor. Sash windows in left gable, casement window on first
floor of right gable, under segmental arch, large projecting
bay window with slate roof at ground floor. Entrance in centre
with 6-panelled door, now part glazed in early C20 open porch
with gabled roof. To right tall projecting chimney. On left
return timber frame exposed with former entrance door, now
disused. Right hand section is of 2 bays. First floor has
small 2-light casement window on left and large tripartite
sash window on right. On ground floor former carriageway, now
refronted with two C20 4-light casement windows and narrow
door.
