Garden walls, steps, gate piers and
gates adjoining South Hill Park on

GV II

Walled garden with retaining walls, steps, gate piers and
gates enclosing rectangular parterre garden. C19.
MATERIALS: Orange brick in English bond with stone dressings.
EXTERIOR: On east side wall of 6-bays, pilasters with stone
bases and heads. In centre is double stair over stone alcove
having stone vase balusters and wide moulded stone hand-rail.
In end on right is wide niche with stone voussoirs and
segmental arched head, inside is brick bench with stone top.
On north side is lower wall of 7-bays with similar piers but
topped with stone urns with swags, of which 3 remain. On south
side are 4-panelled gate piers with moulded tops and bases of
former urns. Between centre piers pair of ornamental gates
with pediment shaped top and decorated with swags and
festoons. To left of gates is low wall of 4-bays.
