Description

MARESFIELD

995/0/10089 NETHER LANE
21-JUL-03 NUTLEY
OLD NETHER

II
Former farmhouse, now house. Said to date from 1432 and is certainly a C17 or earlier timberframed building refronted in C19 (brick over front door dated 1853) and refenestrated in C20. Timberframed, refronted in brick now painted, render, weatherboarding and hipped tiled roof with one off central and one formerly external right side brick chimneystack. Two storeys and attics: three windows. Plan form appears to be a three bay lobby entrance house.
EXTERIOR: Front elevation of painted brick in Flemish bond with three irregularly spaced windows, C20 wooden casements with leaded lights. Right side elevation is rendered. Left side elevation has a weatherboarded lean-to extension. Rear elevation has a catslide roof with gabled dormer, outshot and a gabled and tiled left side projection with timberframing.
INTERIOR: Sitting room has an open fireplace with wooden bressumer and brick hearth, spine beam and exposed floor joists. Dining room also has exposed beams. The original external wall is visible from the outshot and is timberframed with box-framing and wattle and daub panels. The outshot has an angled queen strut and exposed rafters and is probably C18. The staircase is of winder or half-winder shape and may be of interest. First floor bedrooms are described as having exposed beams to ceilings and walls.
A C17 or earlier timberframed house, probably of lobby entrance type, refronted in brickwork.
