Description

Substantial remains of traditional Shetland farm comprising house, barn, and byres, with yard to N.

CROFTHOUSE, BARNS, BYRE AND KILN: single storey gabled crofthouse oriented N S at centre, extended by 1 bay to S, gabled wing projecting at centre of E elevation. Barn adjoining to N with kiln at N gable, additional 2 chamber byre adjoining to W.

YARD WALL: remains of drystone wall extending N from kiln, curving to right and enclosing yard to E.

Statement of Interest

Bremire is a large and impressive survivor of the Shetland vernacular. Although currently roofless (1996), much of it is complete to wallhead.
