Description

Dated 1861. Single storey gabled lodge house with modern flat-roofed, dry-dashed extension to NW. Moulded tablet bearing intertwined initials over date 1861. Squared and snecked whinstone with architraved windows and door, some droved quoins.

S (MAIN) ELEVATION: centre door under gablet, blank recessed wall to right, gable to left with window and date above.

W ELEVATION: projecting broad gable to right with window, window to left and extension adjoining at outer left with further window.

E ELEVATION: projecting gable with window to left, catslide roof adjoining at right with boarded door and adjacent window in return wall, small recessed projection abutted by extension at outer right.

N ELEVATION: gablehead window visible over extension with 2 windows.

Mainly 6-pane glazing pattern in casement windows, remainder with modern plate glass glazing. Graded grey slates, paired ashlar stack with cavetto coping and polygonal cans, deeply overhanging eaves with moulded bargeboard.

Statement of Interest

Grouping of stacks is reminiscent of Burn's design for Strathenry House, and is replicated at South Lodge.
