Description

Largely 19th-century rebuild of (probably) early 18th-century

structure, and reusing some early 18th-century moulded

stonework. Former chapel to Cally House. Small rubble

rectangular building, single storey with attic, now converted

to dwelling.

S ELEVATION: to left, basket-arched roll-moulded doorway,

some later 19th-century stonework, some early roll-moulding incorporated; partly glazed modern door. To right, lancet

window with moulded ashlar jambs enlarged recently to

tripartite with concrete jambs.

N ELEVATION: painted with 2 roll-moulded rectangular windows,

again, partly reused 18th-century material, partly

19th-century. All openings with modern glazing, some

astragalled, to N larger window has Y-tracery. To W gable,

stepped sandstone skews with scroll skewputts, all of

19th-century appearance, cross finial to apex. To E gable,

coped rendered stack, possibly a modern addition. Steeply

pitched slate roof. Single storey lean-to to E.

Statement of Interest

A similar, though less altered private chapel is found at

Cardonness House, Anwoth Parish. Part of Cally Estate B

Group.
