Circa 1870 improved estate steading, altered and extended by time of 1904 OS 2nd edition map. Partially demolished. Remaining steading comprising L-plan byre and threshing barn, probably circa 1870, built on sloping site to NW; symmetrical, gabled stables and domestic block attached to E, probably a slightly later addition. Grey whin rubble with squared and stugged red sandstone dressings with chamfered arrises; timber bracketted overhanging eaves, slated roofs.
THRESHING BARN: single-storey and loft. Slated piend roof mostly replaced at S range by corrugated iron; slated ridge vent to slated roof of N/NE range. Circular (open) rubble-built horse walk in N re-entrant angle, powered threshing machine within barn on NE wall of S/SW range (see notes).
STABLES AND DOMESTIC BLOCK: single-storey and loft, near symmetrical E elevation, gabled bays with pointed arched glazed attic windows flanking 2-bay centre. Central square-plan ridge fleche with timber louvres and tall slated pyramid roof. Variety of glazing patterns, earlier timber casement type with 8 lying panes to NE gable of barn; 4-pane sash and case glazing to stables and domestic block to SE. 2 walls of roofless block (post 1870 addition) remaining to wallhead height to S. Post 1870 block to W now demolished, modern house built on its site (W of present steading). Walled kitchen garden of circa 1870 date defines enclosed area to N.
Former estate steading, Cromartie estates. Threshing machine, now in poor condition, belt-driven.
