Description

Andrew Maitland, Architect, Tain. 1857-58. Single storey and
attic school and schoolhouse. Long S facing building, tooled red
rubble, tooled ashlar dressings.
Principal building of 3 bays with centre entrance under
4-centred arch in slightly advanced gabled porch with flanking
lights and wide crow-stepped outer bays, to right with large
bipartite (lighting former schoolroom?) and similar but
smaller window to left. Regular 2-bay E return gable elevation
with 2 piended dormers.
Further single storey and attic, 5-bay wing set back at E
gable; also centre entrance in advanced and crowstepped
porch. 2 gabletted dormers with decorative cast-iron brattishing
(also porch); varied glazing.
End, ridge and rear stacks; slate roofs.
