Description

Thomas Bouch and Thomas Grainger, engineer, 1849-51. Tidal, former railway harbour. Polished and bull-faced ashlar blocks, concrete faced buttresses, flagstone paving at margins, large mooring ring at E.

U-plan with further pier extended from castle battery partly across seaward opening.

Statement of Interest

The harbourt was built by the Dundee and Arbroath, and Edinburgh, Dundee and Perth Railway Companies to accommodate rolling stock ferred to and from Tayport (renamed by them at this time from Ferryport-on-Craig).

The fishing fleet and the Volunteers' Submarine Miners also used the harbour. Three rare 1860s rifled barrels being used as bollards were removed from the pier and mounted on carriages in Broughty Ferry castle in 1990.
