Description

Mid 18th century with alterations and additions. Inn

frequented by Robert Burns. Built of whitewashed brick

with painted ashlar margins. Mainly 2 storeys. 6-bay main

range has off-centre door with canopy over, 2 bays to

right (E) with re-set 1696 datestone and modern lavatory

extension; 2 bays to left (W) within tall 4-storey range

to rear of High Street. Small-paned sash windows many

with thick astragals. Corbelling over one canted angle and eaves blocking all in brick; slate roof. Interior contains several

18th century timber-panelled rooms; stair and doors mostly

18th century.

Statement of Interest

Set behind main road and approached through pend. In regular

use for celebrations commemorating Burns.
