Description

Designed by David J. Reid and made by the Rose Street Foundry of Inverness, 1901-1902. A decorative suspension footbridge with a span of approximately 50 metres. It has a wooden deck supported by steel cables and hangers, and pairs of lattice-steel pylons at each end, topped by ornate finials.

Statement of Interest

This decorative wire-rope suspension bridge with a elegantly curved walkway has a remarkably long span. It is a distinctive feature on the coastline on the edge of Tain, crossing the mouth of the River Tain. It provides walkers access over the river to ground known as Plaids Circle. It is one of about 20 wire footbridges in Scotland.
