Later 18th century to early 19th century (see Notes) with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 3-bay whinstone house with droved red sandstone dressings (with some later render repairs). Flush quoins.
S ELEVATION: regularly disposed bays. Later boarded door to centre at ground with window at 1st floor above. Windows to each floor of flanking bays.
N ELEVATION: advanced bay to left. Window at ground to centre.
E ELEVATION: window at 1st floor to right. Later projection to N with boarded door with glazed upper section to left, window at 1st floor above and flanking right at ground.
12-pane timber sash and case windows. Brick gablehead stacks; coped skews. Slate roof.
INTERIOR: shutters in place and working at 1st floor. Original rear door still in place now internal due to later projection to N.
The name, "Outlawcleuch" appears on the map of 1654. Various spellings appear for the group of buildings on this site, including "Alttlicleugh" (1771) and "Cathycleugh" (1821, John Ainslie). The house was a L-plan arrangement by 1857, as now. Outbuilding to E with planning permission for change of use.
