Description

Walter MacFarlane and Co, Saracen Foundry, Glasgow, 1911. Ornate octagonal plan bandstand on corniced base. Timber steps to N. Cast iron columns with Corinthianesque capitals bearing segmentally arched cast-iron spandrels with elaborate traceried open work decoration. Moulded cornice with some remains of scallop-work. Heraldic crest set in ornate ironwork faces entrance to Stair Park at N. Timber boarding to roof interior; central circular pendant. Tall cast- and wrought-iron crown finial to exterior roof. Cast-iron railings.

Statement of Interest

Bandstand built to commemorate George V's coronation in 1911. Stair Park, in which it resides, was laid out in 1905. In process of renovation, to be relocated within the park (1997).
