Description

1905. Pair of octagonal and square-plan red sandstone piers marking entrance of Stair Park. Chamfered base course to octagonal-plan piers; string course; corniced octagonal cap; ?1905? inscribed within. Chamfered base course to octagonal-plan piers; string course; moulded cornice; ball finial; 'Stair' inscribed ribbon in left pier, 'Park' inscribed ribbon in right pier. Decorative iron gates to both sets of gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

A good early 20th century example of municipal park provision. The square piers have been moved to improve access, having been set originally within the octagonal piers.
