Description

18th century. Two-storey and attic, three-bay, rectangular-plan, symmetrical farmhouse with single storey wing. Harled with painted stone margins and roughly coursed rubble.

South (principal) elevation: boarded timber entrance door with windows in flanking bays. First floor windows evenly spaced and set close to eaves. Bay to outer right with boarded timber door and plate glass fanlight.

West elevation: window to right at both floors, further window to left at ground and small gablehead window.

North elevation: timber door with three-pane fanlight in bay to left of centre with window above and further window to each floor at outer left.

Four-, six- and twelve-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar chimney stacks with thackstanes and full complement of cans. Plain bargeboarding and deeply overhanging eaves.

Former Dairy: early 19th century, small, harled and slated former dairy to north of farmhouse. Multi-pane glazing to bipartite window at west (see Notes).

Ancillary structures: low, four-bay rubble and slate range projecting from east end of house. Two-leaf timber door with dormer gablehead, flanking single doors and further slightly advanced piended bay to right with door at outer right.

Boundary Walls and Gatepiers: flat-coped rubble boundary walls and ashlar gatepiers with dome caps.

Statement of Interest

Property of Glamis Castle Maintenance Trust. The early 19th century dairy previously had a pyramidal thatched roof, louvered air vent and front veranda.
