History

Contemporary with the 1860's development of the town centre and the creation of Castle Street, this scheme was conceived by Morris Roberts (?Owen Morris Roberts of Porthmadog) and the layout designed by W H Hill of Oswestry.

Exterior

3-storey painted brick front with slate roof, stock brick chimney stack and dentil eaves band.
4-pane sash glazing, 4-windows to 2nd floor with cill band; 2-windows to left of 1st floor with architraves and bracket cornices (one bracket missing); splayed oriel to right, probably a later addition as the glazing is horned. Paired shop fronts, modern alterations, to left retaining fascia end brackets, recessed doorway. No 39 has original shop front with pilasters and cornice etc; central splayed entrance. Rubble masonry just visible to right of ground floor.
