History

Early C18 outbuilding, possibly once domestic, more probably an outside kitchen or brewhouse. Later the E end was used as an outside kitchen, entered from S side, the main part, entered from N was used as a stable. Known as Barn Cottage, though not converted to domestic use.

Exterior

Rubble stone, partly whitewashed, with slate roof, and stone E end stack. One-storey and loft, single range. N front has typical stable arrangement of door between two windows, all offset to right. Timber lintels. A small light with another timber lintel is set just above the door lintel.

Rear S wall has door and window with timber lintels, to right. W end has part blocked loading door.

Interior

Ground floor has three large beams. E end section has lower floor, cobbled, and large fireplace with lath-and-plaster hood on a long fireplace beam. Bread-oven and copper in fireplace. Roof has four heavy oak collar trusses with scarfed feet to three of them. Second truss has plank partition with horizontally laid boards.

Listed as an early C18 outbuilding of regional character with heavy beams and roof trusses. Group value with Gelli and other outbuildings.
