Circa 1900. Pink granite cattle trough on stone end blocks with heart shaped niches in each. Below, three smaller troughs for cats and dogs hollowed out from plinth. Short round column of drinking fountain rises at west end from square base. Basin with inscription above, commemorating Samuel Bemister, seven times Mayor of Christchurch.
The drinking fountain and cattle trough was moved to its current location in about 1994
