Former village school and master's house, now 3 dwellings. Dated 1857 on
chimney, converted into houses in mid C20. Coursed sandstone rubble with
ashlar dressings. Graduated green slate roofs and ashlar chimney stacks.
Tudor style. Long centre block with projecting cross-gabled wing at right
(former master's house, now No. 17) and former gabled porch at left (now part
of No. 19). Centre block: single storey with C20 attics, 4 bays. Central
truncated external chimney with dated plaque. Flanking chamfered doorways
under hoodmoulds stepped up over blank shields. Doorway at left moved from
original position in porch. Three 3-light C20 casements in altered chamfered
surrounds. Eaves raised and 4 large, hip-roofed dormers inserted. Steeply-
pitched roof with truncated central ridge stack and tall cylindrical end
stacks. Small gabled porch at left has C20 3-light window and projecting
gabled bellcote with single pointed opening. 2-storey wing at right: cross
window on ground floor and 2-light window above, both under hoodmoulds; coped
gable with square kneelers; transverse ridge chimney with 3 cylindrical
stacks; chamfered doorway in 2-bay. right return.
Included for group value. Later C20 additions on rear of not of interest.
