Chest tomb. 1777 to 'William Liberty/of Chorley Wood Brickmaker/who was
by his own desire/buried in a vault/on this part of his estate/died 21
April 1777 aged 53 years/and/Alice Liberty his wife'. Thick limestone
engraved slab as top to chest tomb with chamfered plinth and
fine-jointed red brickwork as sides of chest. Reeded surround to a panel
cut into brick at each end and 2 on S face next the path. Small granite
slab set into brickwork at W end. Aligned E-W with an iron railed
enclosure. Kelly in 1914 describes the tomb as being in an orchard 200
yards to E of old church. (Kelly(1914)101).
