Church. C12, C13, C15, C16, restored late C19. Coursed
ironstone rubble, ironstone ashlar, some brick. Slate nave roof,
lead chancel roof, stone coped gables. West bellcote, nave with
south porch and rectangular chancel. West front has large
irregular quoins and C19 pointed window of 2 lights with Y
tracery. Small late C19 bellcote crowned with gable. 2
blocked, pointed arches of late C12, 2 bay arcade visible on
north aisle wall. To the west is 2 light rectangular window
inserted in C16 when arcades were blocked. To the east, an early
C13 pointed window with ogee tracery, re-set in C16, restored in
C19. Battered remnant of arcade capital inbetween windows.
Eastern most nave arcade capital with abacus and necking partly
intact. Remnants of north chancel arcade with fragmentary
abacus in place. East end has single C19 pointed window with
heavy triangular lintel. South east corner of chancel patched
in red brick. South side of chancel has pointed light patched
round with brick. South side of nave has remnant of round
arched blocked south arcade of cll7O. To the east is a late C19
pointed window with tracery, inserted. To the west a C16 porch
with round headed chamfered arch, chamfered jambs and impost
blocks. Porch interior flanked by stone benches. Re-set late
C12 south doorway with round headed arch with roll moulding,
inner rectangular jambs and outer shafts, moulded impost blocks
and C20 plank door. Interior 3 north arcade piers and south
arcade piers embedded in north and south walls that bulge out
inbetween. North arcade with double chamfered pointed arches.
Large round pier to west with plain capital and moulded abaci; a
cluster of 3 shafts with elaboratly moulded abaci in the middle
and with a round eastern pier with abacus similar to that of
central pier. South arcade with double chamfered round arches.
All 3 piers are round with crude palmette foliage carving on
westernmost capital. Central pier with scalloped capital and
easternmost pier with lobed foliage designs on capitalof cll7O.
Chancel arch of cll5O with round arch, heavy rectangular jambs
stepped back and plain impost blocks. Blocked north arcade of
chancel with single pointed arch and part of rectangular jamb
embedded in west wall. Nave has plaster ceiling, chancel has
C19 timber roof. C12 round font with interesting arcade and
cable decoration with beading. Early C16 bench ends of various
ornately carved designs. C19 lecturn.
