Library, 1905 by Henry T Hare. Sculpture by F E E Schenck. 2 storeys.
Portland stone and red brick. Entrance on axis. Ionic colonnade at let
floor between end pavilions which have Palladian windows to let floor and
open pediments over. Cupola with vane. Fine sculptural ornaments including
figures of Shakespeare &Milton and reliefs of literature and Art, Industry
and Science. Surviving internal features including glazed barrel vault with
plaster reliefs etc. Commission won in limited competition.
