Group Value
1899, by H T Buckland (1870-1951) and E Haywood Farmer for Buckland himself
who lived there until his death. Pebbledashed; tiled hipped roof broken by
a single slightly off centre gable. Two storeys plus attic. In an Arts
and Crafts style. The original door within a shallow recess in which, over
the door, a band of shapes in flat relief; above, a bold round arched slate
hood. The fenestration wholly asymmetrical with a canted bay window on the
left but mostly 2 or 3 light casements, some with stained glass. First
floor windows tucked under the wide eaves. Very little altered interior
with good joinery and door furniture. Four fireplaces with original grates
and almost Art Nouveau copper firehoods, excellent plasterwork in the ceilings
and stained glass. Original garden layout preserved. (Illus. in H Muthesius,
Landhaus und Garten, Munich, 1907).
