Cumberland Obelisk. Commemorating death of William, Duke of Cumberland in 1765.
Tapered square column on a classical base surmounted by a sun symbol. Inscribed
by HM King William IV 'Raised by the command of King George the Second to
commemorate the services of his son William, Duke of Cumberland and the success
of his arms and the gratitude of his Father'. Garter symbol carved in base on
sides facing S and W. Base tablet facing N carved with laurel wreath surmounted
by Royal crest inscribed 'W.A. Born April 15th 1721 Died October 31st 1765'.
Column above N tablet incised 'CUMBERLAND'.
