6/32 Tea-room, balustrade
and flanking steps

Tea-room, now used as store. 1870 by Lockwood and Mawson. Hammer-
dressed stone, ashlar, stone flagged roof. Semicircular projection
from raised terrace the roof being used as viewing balcony with steps
to either side. 4 tall doorways with monolithic jambs with French
windows, set between slight projections with rusticated quoins. Central
feature with carved semicircular-arched recess with shell motif recessed
for drinking fountain on pedestal. Entablature, cornice and low balustrade
with 5 circles set over doorways. Date to centre. To either side 2
flights of steps with ½ landing and matching balustrade. Roof formed
by platform, approached up 3 steps on which is set the statue of Sir
Titus Salt (q.v.) a later insertion. Part of the park, opened in 1871,
for the model village of Saltaire.
