Church, 1882, in Decorated style. Hammer dressed stone with ashlar
dressings. Pitched slate roofs with projecting rafters. 4-bay nave
with separately pitched aisle to north and south. Lean-to south
porch with entrance in west side. 3-bay chancel with chapel to north
and south. 4-tier square tower, with saddleback roof, to 1st bay of
north chancel chapel. Adjoining this is a square stair tower, also
with saddleback roof. The main tower has small paired lancets to
each stage except the bell chamber which has large 2-light moulded
and cusped openings with colonnettes to reveals and as centre mullion.
Aisle and chapel windows of 2 and 3 lights mainly with curvilinear
tracery. Large 7-light east window to chancel with 3-light windows
at basement level.
Interior: 7-bay arcade to north and south on polished grey-granite
shafted columns with octagonal bases and moulded capitals. This
arcading continues into the chancel dividing it from the chapels.
The columns are paired at the junction with the chancel, and in the
chancel have foliated capitals. Chancel steps extend the full width
of the church. Reredos to chancel of carved stone with 2-bay blind
arcade to each side.
Open-back oak pews with curved sides. Octagonal grey-marble font on
grey-granite podium. Good, tall, very elaborate carved oak cover,
suspended over, with crocketed pinnacles and spires and Decorated
tracery. Organ under tower. Wagon roofs to nave and aisles.
Wood vaulted chancel roof. Wooden blocks to floor of pewed areas.
