Bridge. 1770 (Speight p 414). Ashlar magnesian limestone. 5 segmentally-
arched spans of which 2 are over the present course of the River Wharfe which
forms the parish boundary with Thorp Arch. The central arch is flanked by
triangular cutwaters which rise to form pedestrian retreats in the parapet;
the remaining piers have cutwaters terminating in offsets. Continuous band
beneath the parapet which has chamfered copings. South end (in Boston Spa
parish) is much rebuilt on the west side and the east side has rock-faced
retaining wall supporting a widened entrance to the bridge; both parapets
terminate in early C19 round-ended piers with bands. North end of bridge (in
Thorp Arch parish) terminates at square piers but the east parapet is
continued by a curving wall with rounded end pier as those to south. Partly
in the parish of Thorp Arch (see under Bridge Foot).
