Church 1854-5, by Ewan Christian. Stone with slate roofs. Early English
style. West tower with splay-footed spire, nave and 2 aisles separately
roofed making 3 parallel ridges. Tower has angle buttresses, deeply
recessed west. window with sloping sill and plate tracery, and one belfry
louvre on each side, each with pointed arch and chamfered splay. Entrance
in centre of north aisle has gabled porch with low eaves; all aisle
windows (2 on north side, 3 on south side) have plate tracery in two-
centred arches. Angled buttresses to both aisles and chancel. East
window of 3 narrow cusped lights in plate tracery. Interior: the three
adjoined vessels of nave and aisles make a square plan broken only by the
nave arcade of three 2-centred arches carried on short octagonal columns,
and dying at the east and west ends into foliated imposts; chancel continues
nave and both have an open collar rafter roof; east wall of chancel has a blind
arcade of trefoils. In south aisle is fine monumental effigy of
Sarah Esther Farrington, died 1863, originally in chancel together with
Farrington family pews, which were also removed. Church built at expense
of Mrs. Farrington, on being widowed shortly after her marriage.
