Parish church. C14 and C15. Tower of coursed limestone rubble, elsewhere
brown cobbles, all with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs. Chancel, N vestry,
Nave, S porch, N aisle, W tower. Chancel: C15 N doorway to C19 vestry. C19
E window. S wall has C15 windows and priest's door. C19 chancel arch, Nave:
3 bay N arcade C14 but restored. 3 C15 clerestory N windows. S wall has
remains of rood staircase, above which is 3-light window. 2 restored C15
windows to W.S porch: plain, with blocked window to each side, C19 external
doorway. C14 N aisle: wide L window with image recess to NE angle. N wall
has 2 C14 pointed arched windows with different tracery, blocked N doorway,
restored window similar to clerestory ones. 3-light W window. C15 W tower: 5
stages, angle buttresses to W. Leaded spirelet. Shields on cornice 2-light
windows to all sides of top stage, 3-light window to lower W side, small niche
above. Single light to S side. Embattled parapet to tower, plain parapets
elsewhere. Interior: cylindrical C12 font with unfinished band of acanthus
leaves. Fragment of C14 glass to N aisle window. Chancel has 1518 tomb to
Edmund and Agnes Wayte, with brasses inlaid in a slab, shields and
inscriptions. Also various Cl7 and C18 wall monuments to Beecher family, C19
ones to Polhill family. Mainly C19 roofs and pewing.
