Parish church. C12 origins, rebuilt C14, with C15 additions and alterations.
Restored c.1857 by William Slater. Coursed rubble, mixture of ironstone,
limestone and cobblestones. Ashlar dressings. Clay tile roofs. Chancel, N
vestry, nave, N and S aisles, S porch, W tower. Embattled parapets to all
parts except chancel. Chancel: C14, except roof, E end and windows reworked
C19. 3-light pointed-arched E window. S elevation has 2 pointed-arched 2-
light windows and pointed-arched priest's door. N elevation has similar
windows flanking doorway onto vestry. N vestry: C19, with slate roof.
Nave: C14. Original steep-pitched roof (still visible in tower E wall)
replaced by shallower one when aisle walls raised C15. 3-bay pointed-arched
arcades to both sides, with chancel arch in same style. C15 tower arch. N
aisle: N elevation has 2 3-light pointed-arched windows, only central lights
trefoiled. Pointed-arched N doorway. E elevation has 3-light pointed-arched
window with cusped sexfoil in circle in head. C15 W window has 3 lights under
depressed arch. S aisle: similar fenestration to N aisle, except 2 S windows
have more ornate C15 tracery. Pointed-arched doorway. S porch: C14, with
parvis above. Pointed archway surmounted by image niche and small square-
headed window lighting parvis. Access to parvis by staircase at NE angle
opening onto aisle. W tower: C15, reworked C19. 3 stages, with angle
buttresses to W, C19 semi-octagonal stair turret to NE angle, and short leaded
spire. Bell-stage has 2-light pointed-arched window to each side. W
elevation ground stage has pointed-arched doorway surmounted by 2-light
pointed-arched window. Interior: nave and aisles have C15 roofs, with
moulded beams and foliate bosses. C19 pewing. C13 font with round bowl on
single column. A few rather plain wall monuments, mostly C19.
