Office, now cottage. Late C18 with C19 alterations. Coursed rubble and ashlar
with slate roofs. A lateral and a gabled wall stack. Single storey plus attic.
3 bay front with central C20 glazed door reached up 5 steps. To the left a
single glazing bar sash, with to the left again another single glazing bar sash
set in the projecting angle facade, both these windows are linked by a continuous
cill band. To the right a tripartite plain sash. Above over the central door
a 4 light casement in a gabled dormer. This building is the former office to
Wortley Top Forge, and it is situated within the context of this scheduled ancient monument. It is one of only 3 surviving water-powered hammer forges in the UK.
